Quit acting like a two year old

Today is a pretty monumental day. Not only is it April Fools Day, but it is also my blogging birthday. Today, Punch Debt In The Face turns two (which in blogging years means I’m like 150). Never thought when I created this silly website it would actually grow in to a quasi-established personal finance blog (note: I use the word established loosely).

The last 12 months has been interesting. Had great growth some months, and almost no growth others. I remember having a conversation with Mom Ninja telling her I was burnt out and was going to call it quits once I hit 1,000 subscribers. While I wont promise I’ll make it to see my 3rd birthday, I have no plans to stop blogging in the near future. Let’s take a look at some random PDITF stats…

Readership:

Visits on April 1st 2010: 444

Yesterdays visits: 814

Subscribers on April 1st 2010: 666 (freaky!)

Subscribers yesterday: 1,390

Most visits in a single day: 3,329 (thanks Consumerist.com)

Money:

Total Adsense Earnings: $522.87

Highest Single Day Earnings: $22.39

Average Link Advertisement: $50/mo

Highest negotiated ad rate: $125/mo

12 month blog income: $4,500-ish (not exactly sure)

Random Facts:

Total # of blog posts: 575 (wow, I’ve written enough for two books!)

Total # of Comments: 11,817

How many times I’ve offended someone: 453

Search terms that referred people to my site…

  • being ugly
  • who pays for the honeymoon
  • debt unicorn (this one makes me so happy)
  • I lost my virginity (36 referrals and counting)
  • Why am I awake at 4am
  • sending my mom to jail for credit card fraud
  • how many hours is 8 to 5 (I’m concerned for this persons intelligence)

Since it is my birthday and all, I’d like to ask you all for a “present”. Would you respond to the following questions in the comments below…

  1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me?
  2. Why do you keep coming back?
  3. What topics do you want to see more of?
  4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense?
  5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?!

Thanks again for everything 🙂

p.s. If you want to subscribe to my blog to get updates automatically every day you can do so here. If you want to get me on twitter I’m @punchdebt

  2. Congrats

    1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? Well over a year.

    2. Why do you keep coming back? Actually, I’ve been stopping over less and less these last few weeks. I don’t know why, but you used to be one of my first stops in the morning. Maybe it’s the recycled content? Nice to see you again chuck.

    3. What topics do you want to see more of? Funny stuff.

    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? It sure should and so should all of someone’s daycare expenses..not just the first $5000.

    • Was wondering when someone would catch up on the regurgitated content. I am guilty of picking through old articles every once in a while. I figure my average readership length hovers around 12 months, so it doesn’t hurt to go back through some of the older posts sometimes. Isn’t that what us PF blogs do, regurgitate the same info over and over (get out of debt, don’t use CC, high interest savings, blah blah blah). Glad you are loyal enough to notice 🙂

p.s. Chuck will grace my blogging birthday for as long as I celebrate them! haha

  3. 1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? Around a year, we believe.

Just a little over a year.

Your stick figure art, of course! ;o)

What topics do you want to see more of?
Your job search, more about Girl Ninja,

If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense?
Not a question I have contemplated before, but I suppose so!

Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?!
Nope, definitely not, but I recently found out that some of my ancestors were American 😉 That would make me like 1/128th American already (or something like that).

  10. 1) Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? – a couple of months
    2) Why do you keep coming back? – the stick figures
    3) What topics do you want to see more of? – eh…anything goes
    4) If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? – Yes. But if you get a note from your psychiatrist, you can use it a medical tax credit.

  11. 1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me?
As long as I could get away with it.
    2. Why do you keep coming back?
    Force of habit.

Write something about personal finance, getting out of debt, your net worth, that sort of thing. And add some stick figures.
    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense?
Typically sexist comment. There are male strippers.
    5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?!
What a pencil-necked geek. Just a couple of hand guns? He ought to be packing a machine gun in each hand with an ammo cartridge around his shoulders, a belt buckle with a big picture of Sarah Palin, and tats of the flag and eagle on each bicep.

  12. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me?
Since your first blog that turned into this one

Anything where GirlNinja wins or you say something nice about me : )

If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense?
That would depend on if she actualy paid for them or her employer.

Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?!
No, but that you can write a blog 575 times and people keep coming back does, and of course the fact that stick fgures are considered a form of art make a momnija proud!

  13. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? I’d say about 12 months but I’ve lost track by now.

If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? Sadly, I know the answer to this, she can deduct them, its already been done. See this link:
    http://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Tax-Deductions-and-Credits/Top-10-Oddball-Tax-Deductions/INF12065.html

Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! Sorry, still embarasses me to be an American when I see that picture.

  14. Stalking for a year or so. I really enjoy your blog! We are close in age and life milestones – I got married in 2010 too! Keep doing what you are doig with topics. On the implants, probably not but I’m not a tax accountant. Heck yes to Chuck Norris!

What topics do you want to see more of? – Monthly budgeting, financial tool reviews, personal financial reflection
If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? – I hope so, I’ve heard that’s one heck of an expense!
Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! – Any picture of Chuck Norris makes me proud to be an American…because otherwise, I’ll probably end up with a CN roundhouse kick to the face through the internet. (CN is the only person who can send a roundhouse kick through a dial-up internet connection in .2 seconds, btw.)

  16. 1. I can’t quite remember but it’s probably a little less than a year.
    2. I did an entire post about that.
    3. I enjoy everything you write, I like when you share your opinions on stuff and GN related post
    4. See mom ninja’s answer
    5. No and sense we are talking about strippers. That picture reminds me of a male stripper. No disrespect to Chuck. I’m a big fan of Texas Ranger

And good thing I don’t subscribe, I still use the old fashion bookmark system. I not going ever subscribe if it going help you leave.

    1. Just over a year I believe
    2. I love your openness and frankly, I love the conversations that happen in the comment section as a result. You have a great report with your readers.
    3. More of life as a newlywed and trying to figure that out as well as your job search.
    4. I would have no idea. I did know a girl that got insurance to pay for it though b/c she got a note from a psychiatrist saying she was traumatized that one was larger than the other. Go figure.
    5. This picture has no effect on my patriotism, but I do like Chuck Norris (well, really the Chuck Norris jokes more than the man himself).

  19. 1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? 6-8 months, I think.
    2. Why do you keep coming back? Really just because the topics you post about are entertaining and get me to comment quite often!
    3. What topics do you want to see more of? I’m pretty satisfied with the content as it is, but perhaps some more about learning to share finances as a young newlywed (since I’m in your same age group and similar circumstances, so I find most of your posts to be relevant to me)
    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? She should be able to!
    5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! If I say no, will he roundhouse kick me?! 🙁

  22. Hey Ninja! It’s been a while since I commented, but I’m still reading you religiously.

    1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? I probably read your blog for a few months before I for-real-real stalked you in November about doing the guest post. (Thank you again for that, it really made newcomer me feel all warm & fuzzy!)
    2. Why do you keep coming back? I like stick figures. I like snark. I especially like those two things combined.
    3. What topics do you want to see more of? Some of the old getting out of debt tips for those of us who are still struggling with that.
    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? I know some CPAs through work and could get you the honest answer to that, but my asking them might put a new spin on my reputation around the office…
    5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! I will be whatever Chuck Norris wants me to be.

Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! nope. but a picture of Jack Bauer sure would.

  24. HAPPY BLOG DAY!

Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? a month
Why do you keep coming back? The awesome pictures and your sense of humor set you apart from other PF blogs. And I’m a PF nerd, so I’m an addict.
What topics do you want to see more of? So far I like the mix.
If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? Nope but she will get her money back in extra tips.

  26. Happy Anniversary! I keeping returning because I enjoy your writing. I guess I find it entertaining.

  27. 1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me? About 18 months, maybe?
    2. Why do you keep coming back? This snippet from another blog pretty much sums it up: “I like Punch Debt in the Face. Although I am clearly at least a generation too old to fully relate, and the layout still reminds me of a ransom note, the Twitter graphic alone is worth the click. And the blog’s author, Debt Ninja, is endearingly hostile to conventional wisdom and insists on doing his own math. My kinda guy.”
    3. What topics do you want to see more of? Mom Ninja!
    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense? Might have to go under Medical Expenses and meet the threshold requirements
    5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?! All the Chucks make me proud. Ever catch the opening of the old TV western “The Rifleman” with Chuck Conners BLASTING away? Most awesome TV intro ever.

  28. 1. January 2010
    2. Honestly your humor, openness and forward thinking. Being a bit older than you, it has been nostalgic for me to read about your prewedding and newlywed life/finances. It has been fun to thinking fondly about the good financial choices we made when we were your age and also take an honest look at the mistakes we have made and how we can continue improving on this journey. For some reason your perspective posts seem to always show up at the right time too. And, lastly, I like your followers…some of the comments are hilarious and/or thought provoking:)
    3. Retirement, savings, savings for kids expenses/college, travel, and GN’s teaching experience.
    4. Nope
    5. Certainly
    Happy Bloggity B-day!

  30. 1. Roughly how long have you been blog stalking me?

On and off for about 8 months.

    2. Why do you keep coming back?

Basically, you’re me 10 years ago. And every once in a while you ask questions that are thought-provoking. And I find you attract really good comments from people that are almost as fun/informative to read as your posts.

    3. What topics do you want to see more of?

I think that now that you’re starting to get your financial situation together, you should look more to long-term financial planning and how you decide what to invest in. Portfolio balancing, etc. Even if it is just descriptions of conversations you have with a financial planner.

    4. If a stripper gets breast implants, can she write them off as a business expense?

    Of course.

    5. Does this picture of Chuck Norris make you proud to be (or want to be) an American?!

No. But it reminds me that no one but Chuck Norris should ever wear head to toe denim.

  31. 1. about 5 or 6 months. for some reason only offended enough to comment lately.
    2. Not sure yet.
    3. whatever you are happy to write about… that way you will keep it interesting.
    4. probably should capitalise the asset and then depreciate them over 10 years useful life. 5 years if it’s an old stripper.
    5. nope, but that’s not his fault. he’s still awesome.

interestingly, i googled “how many hours is 8 to 5” as a single phrase, the only 2 results came from your website.

  32. 1) 6 months
    2) the stick figures are reason enough
    3) things that are not being written elsewhere
    4) maybe a portion, as I’m sure they are also a bit for personal use
    5) do you even have to ask?

  33. Hi! Happy blogging birthday to you! I have always enjoyed reading your blog especially when you talk about budgeting. Thanks so much for giving us something nice and entertaining to read. And I hope you won’t stop blogging. More power!

  34. 1. about 2-3 months

    3. stickfigures and studentloans
    4. sure she can, but only implants that look good, not gross.
    5. no. What does CN mean to you?

  35. […] few days ago, it was Ninja’s blogging birthday over at Punch Debt in the […]
