My weekend was better than your weekend!

Girl Ninja and I recently returned from our first vacation as a married couple (not counting our honeymoon). We spent our three day MLK weekend running around San Francisco like chickens with our heads cut off. I spent most of the weekend stressing about what we were gonna do next, when we were gonna eat, and how we were gonna get from point A to point B. Girl Ninja spent most of the weekend going to Nordstrom, going to to Banana Republic, and going back to Nordstrom to make sure they didn’t get anything new while she was in Banana. Needless to say, we had our hands full 🙂

Here’s a photo journal of the stuff we did…

We ate crazy good food:

Oh. My. Goodness. I ate so much while in SF. Seriously, I look like a pregnant man. Just look at how incredibly delicious that vegetarian scramble bread bowl thing-a-majigger is! Heavenly! I also had my first ever street vendor hot dog, and to be honest it was pretty mediocre. We had awesome Sundae’s at Girhadelli’s. And Crazy good Italian food at this little joint called Finos. Best part about being on vacation was definitely trying new restaurants!

We went to crazy awesome places:

Took a little pit stop on our bike ride across the bridge

These sea lions were pissed at eachother!

Probably the most inefficient street in the world

I took this picture from our hotel room window...no joke!

Golden Gate Bridge, Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, The Embarcadero, Lombard Street, Union Square, the Financial District, etc. We tried to check off as many iconic SF places as possible. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to make it to Alcatraz or Golden Gate Park, but don’t worry, we’ll check those off the list next time. Even though we ate a ton, I’m sure we burned even more calories with all the walking around we did.

We saw some crazy stuff:

No one should ever eat at this place...ewww!
There were a million of these stupid animal hat things everywhere!
This one dude was sticking big rocks on little rocks...crazy!
I thought this sweatshirt was really funny
Funniest sign ever in a bookstore!
ummm, no comment

As expected, we saw some pretty crazy stuff in SF. There were a billion street performers. A billion cable cars and trolleys. A billion and one homeless people. Heck, we even saw two sea lions get in a fight at Pier 39. The entire trip was downright incredible! There’s no telling what you will see when you take a stroll down the streets of San Francisco. It’s part of what makes the city so darn fun.

All in all, we had a great time and totally enjoyed our first vacation together. I haven’t crunched the numbers yet, but I think the total damage for the trip is around $800 (including airfare and hotel). Not too shabby if you ask me. I could get use to this vacationing thing, where to next?!?!?!

  1. I think the answer to your question is Seattle. When I went cross country San Fransisco and New Orleans were by far my favorite cities. Not sure what New Orleans is like these days though. For natury stuff, Boulder is pretty fab and still hip enough for girl ninja.

  2. OMG @ the animal hats. I have a picture in one and I also took the same picture of that odd Sephora add for Dr. Perricone. I’m extremely curious as to who thought it was a good idea! Great view from the hotel room as well.

  3. Looks like you and Girl Ninja had an awesome time and the pics are fab; San Fran is definitely on our bucket list! Ninja, you’ve NEVER had street meat before?? WOW!! You and Girl Ninja have got to make your way to Toronto; Hubby is a street meat connaiseur… he’ll hook ya up!

    • Genius.

When a German exchange student came to my high school 2 years ago, someone asked him with complete seriousness “Does it rain in Germany?”

      Me: :-0

      • When I mentioned that we don’t really get summer thunderstorms in our area (SF Bay Area), my cousin’s husband asked with all seriousness, “Do you have rainbows?” :0 indeed!

  4. Oh I love that photo of the night!! Those kinda photos are the best! =) And that sign is great haha.

Ahh i want to go travel soo much… I miss China & HK.. haha

  5. Next stop is Bakersfield, CA. You could stay in a bed and breakfast for a week, and some mornings you could go out and feed the cows.

  6. Where to next….

Colorado, you have Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, all the ski resorts and depending on how long you stay there is south west colorado like durango, telluride

its a good place to live

  7. Looks great! Would you mind sharing what hotel you stayed in? B. and I are heading to SF in July and I’m always looking for ideas. Thanks!

  8. Man, I miss San Francisco. Visited there a few times but we can never get enough of it. Another place you should consider visiting is Vancouver, B.C. Especially now that you will be right next door to it! The wifey wants to live there but we be too poor for that city right now.

  9. Congrats on an awesome weekend! My husband and I threw another board gaming potluck Saturday evening and we all stayed up until 5am gaming…not as awesome as the Golden Gate Bridge, but pretty dang fun. 🙂
You two should hit Las Vegas sometime or a cruise. Snorkeling off the coast of Grand Cayman or even Cozumel is awesome!

    • 2nd that vote on Vegas! We’re not party-hearty drinkers, and I’m too “thrifty” to gamble, but it is a real fun place to be!

  10. Next time you go, you might participate in some of the tours. They are free, although you tip the guide. It gives you insight into the history of the city.

  11. I love, love, LOVE San Fran. Hubby proposed to me on Pier 39. We had dinner out at a little hole in the wall in ChinaTown to celebrate, and I made him drive down Lombard Street, just because I’d never been there before. And I think we have videos on that same mountain overlooking the Golden Gate. Thanks for posting pics – it was a little walk down memory lane for this happy wife (who coincidentally, met her hubby while we were in college in San Diego just as you and Girl Ninja did).

  12. Portland OR would be another easy trip from over there on the West Coast for a long weekend. When you get more time, head for Hawaii.

  13. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed SF! It’s a fun city to be sure, and yeah, those animal hats are everywhere. What’s with those?

  14. OMG awesome pictures of San Fran! You both take good pictures. When I went in May a few years back it was foggy but warm.

  15. Not too many places I would move to (San Fran is up there).

Great food and nice restaurants. I had brunch at an amazing place on Columbus Day last year with my wife.

I love being able to walk places – really expensive place to live though.
