Addiction Whore.

Are you like me? Do you get temporarily obsessed with random things? Maybe I’m bi-polar, maybe I lack commitment, but I sit here reflecting on all of the glorious obsessions I have had over the last couple years. Some persist, but many are short lived.

HGTV: Yes, it is terribly embarrassing to admit, but I was quite addicted to the channel. Any show that involved the home buying process was like a drug to me. I seriously think one day I watched four hours of Property Virgins and My First Place.

Photoshop: Holy crap, do yourself a favor and avoid Photoshop at all costs. There is no way to avoid an instant addiction to it. I mean it’s the best way to make a crappy photo, less crappy. It has so many features that it is easy to spend ten or so hours just learning how to use one tool.

Olympics: Don’t even try talking to me when the Olympics are on TV. I seriously am obsessed with every single Olympic sport. Yes, that includes male gymnastics. The worst part about being hooked, the Olympics typically are on at really awkward hours when they are hosted in different countries.

Personal Finance: Fortunately this is a relatively healthy and continual addiction. I say “relatively”, as I’m sure many of us could admit we may spend a little too much time focusing on our finances. I’m particularly interested in clever ways to make and save money. Mention something like “Credit card arbitrage” and it’s almost a guarantee I’ll research the crap out of it until I decide if it’s for me (arbitrage is not).

The list goes on and on, I’m seriously an addiction whore. If something tickles my fancy, I get super in to it, and about two months later I move on to something new. Maybe it’s a bad thing that I can’t stay committed, but I like to think that this makes me a more “well rounded individual” (at least that’s what I put on my college application). What about you? What are some of your recent addictions? Please tell me I’m not crazy, and there are others out there that suffer from short-term-addictionitis.

P.S. Happy birthday to Brother Ninja today, He turns 21 and is partying it up in Vegas! Put the beer and poker chips down brother :)

I am pretty sure that you might be a mind ninja and stole this post from my mind. I obsess like it is my job and go through obsessions often. PF was my hardcore obsession from like Oct-April (still read about 10 PF blogs that I love) then fitness and my goal to run a marathon from (April – August) then grad school, but now I am back to fitness. I may or may not also be known to catch up on multiple seasons of a TV show in mere weeks. Lost: First 2.5 seasons over my senior year spring break.. thats like 65 hours of TV (but hey, it was cheaper than going to Cancun?)

It's good to see I'm not the only one who gets addicted to the Olympics. My mates don't seem to get it, but when they're on I watch as much as I can, even the lamer events like ping pong and archery, bring it on I say!

Coca-Cola ran a comp here in Australia to go to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I ended up buying 100 litres of the stuff just to get entries, but no luck. Sad part is I don't even drink Coke that much.

I'll meet you in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics hey Ninja? Now that would be one excellent Olympics to check out. We'll see if you're still blogging by 2016.

I'm also addicted to failblog.org. Very funny, if you haven't seen it, check it out :-)

No, it's not bad to have something for a bit and move on… As long as when you find something you *really* like it sticks around. :) That's what happened to me with cars — I have the same fickle personality, but cars just kinda came in and settled and haven't left in over a year, so that must mean something!

But I totally go through some rotations. I'll watch one show obsessively, then quit cold turkey only to pick it up a few months later, quit again, repeat ad naseum. Happens with shows, blogs, games, nail polish, etc. Anything, really.

PF, though, is one I'm trying to monitor. There is really only so much one can do when one's income is itty bitty for the moment, and I sometimes take it too far with the savings considering how much I make. (Peanuts, but I'm a student so sue me! At least it's something. ;3) But I'm to the point where I'm okay and things are going well, so I really don't need to check my accounts five times a day. I can even make it through days where I don't check at all! *gasp of horror*

Oh, but I am obsessed with checking my blog. *sigh* That habit I really must break, the stats can become too consuming.

7 Financial Samurai

Hey! You may have seen me on HGTV then, as our show keeps on re-running and it's been 2+ years already since we filmed it!

I'm addicted to writing on Financial Samurai. :)
