Net Worth: March 2011

by Ninja on March 3, 2011 · 19 comments

Let the good times roll. February was a great month for Girl Ninja and I, as far as our net worth was concerned. We kept plugging and chugging and managed to scrape together another couple thousand bucks. So far we are on track to break $100,000 NW by year’s end.  Here’s the breakdown…

Assets:

Checking Account: $4,370; -$2,463. I’ve probably spent $1,000 on California Burritos over the last two weeks. Those things are so tasty, I just had to eat one every chance I got. Okay, maybe I didn’t spent $1,000. Probably more like $50.

Savings Accounts: $24,656; +5,510. Can I get a Booya for increasing our savings 5 grand? Gotta bank as much of this Dual Income as possible, cause the day will come when Girl Ninja wants to become Mom Ninja…scary!!!!

Roth IRA: $22,249; +$223. I should have waited for the end of the day to post this update. At the current moment the Dow is up 168 points. Me likey when the market goes up. Me no likey when the market goes down.

TSP (401K): $22,320; +$588. The standard 5% contribution heads this direction each month. That 5% gets fully matched. I invest in virtually the same types of funds in both my Roth IRA and in my 401K so they generally perform the same. BORING.

Liabilities:

Student Loan: $0. Still loving that paid off school loan. I’ve been debt free for 10 months now and it feels WONDERFUL! Like, just-ate-17-california-burritos wonderful!

Credit Card: $1,458. Our credit card bill each month usually hovers between $1,200 and $2,000. Every dollar we spend, is an airline mile gained. Nothing like making our money work for us :)

In all, we were able to increase our net worth by another $4,169 over the last month. That puts our total Net Worth at $72,138 (this time last year, it was $33,525). If we keep doing what we were doing, we should hit $100,000 in about October, if I stop eating California burritos, we could probably hit that mark next month…October it is!!!! :)

p.s. you can see all of my net worth updates here.

**I chose not to include ‘possessions’ (including our cars) in our NW calculations, which would probably increase our worth by about $15,000.**

Your net worth update makes me want a California burrito.

Ninja – Can you please give me a couple good places to try a California burrito? I am heading out that way for a work conference at the end of the month. I love burritos and I need to know what all the hype is with a California burrito!

Congrats on your networth increase!

Where in Cali are you gonna be? I only know San Diego burritos. Basically, anything where the employee’s don’t speak English, and the facilities look worn down, is going to have an AWESOME burrito. The dingier the better my friend!

Conference is in San Diego. Thanks!

Adalbertos, Cotijas, Ortiz’s, Santanas, anything that looks dirty.

In West Los Angeles (Mar Vista) , Tito’s Tacos on Washington Street are the best! I have been frequenting it since 1975.

That is phenomenal Ninja, you are CRUSHING IT!

I wish I had known at your age what you and Girl Ninja know. That’s ok, it’s all good and I’m not doing too bad.

Thanks to the Inter-tubes, you guys are doing a great service educating other folks. If just a few folks learn the lessons you’re preaching it’ll make it all worthwhile!

Good job! If you pay off your credit card each month, I probably would not include it. It is accounts payable or a current liability if paid off each month. It is a wash or offset to cash.

Congrats on the net worth increase! Definitely craving a burrito now…

I couldn’t get past the creepy pic!

Yeah, that picture is friggin creepy. The fact that I can almost see Chunk’s (he looks like Chunk from the Goonies) junk and that one dude is holding her throat….. **shudders** seriously, Ninja, that’s really creeping me out.

wow, I can’t believe it’s been ten months that you’ve been debt free!

Make sure to have a one year celebration! With Cake!

Great job! Hitting the $100K mark is gonna be sweet:).

Don’t we all love round numbers Amanda? :-)

What’s really cool is when invested amounts get above $100k! If your portfolio is $10,000 and the market goes up 10% you earn a whopping $1k. But if your portfolio is stocked with $100,000 and the market goes up 10% you get to see $10,000 magically appear in your account!

Compounding baby! The number 2 reason the rich get richer.

15 StackingCash March 3, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Market goes down 10% you see $10,000 magically disappear from your account!

It’s always good to know that!

Wow you killed it last month and that was a short month!

gees Ninja, Girl Ninja could have had that duvet for the price of your burrito addiction.
