Net Worth: Sept 09

Hollar at baller, ’cause it’s time to update my net worth. Another month has come and past, and things are still moving in the upwards direction, which if you didn’t know, is a GREAT thing! It’s not the craziest gain I have ever seen, but I’ll take what I can get.

Note: My NW is pretty easy to calculate because I don’t own very many things. I have a savings/checking account and a couple retirement accounts . I chose not to include things like personal belongings (laptop, camera, etc) or my car (which would add probably $8K to my worth) because I figure those are things I will always need and wouldn’t really want to go with out.

Checking Account: $1,095. I try and keep around $1,000 in my checking account at all times. I was tempted to hold off on calculating my net worth until Friday ’cause that is payday and would have given me an artificial $1,300 bump.

Savings Account: $14,695, +$0. I made a decision that I was going to halt contributing to my savings account for the time being and will focus my attention to my student loan. With the $14K I got in there, I could survive for about 8 months without a problem.

Roth IRA: $11,214, +$343. Hey any time the stock market makes a little gain, I wont be complaining. I still haven’t broken even on my contributions, but over time I’ll get there. Just gotta be patient….right?

401K: $8,536, +$705. Pretty standard investing going on here, 8% of each paycheck. I invest in very similar funds in both my Roth IRA and 401K. I get 5% of my paycheck fully matched.

Student Loan: -$19,352, +$1,800. It started at 28K on 02/08. I have been making at least $1,000 monthly payments on this bizznatch after some words of wisdom from my wonderful readers. My minimum obligation recently changed from $178 to $220. I was able to throw a hefty chunk at it this month since I stopped contributing to my online savings. Suck it Salle Mae.
So what does this bring my total net worth too??? $16,188. I’m up $2,519 from last month. My big accomplishment this month was getting that stupid student loan under $20K. I’m patting myself on the back right now actually 🙂 I still can’t believe I was worth negative $2K exactly six months ago. Who else wants to join me on my path to becoming a bagillionaire!?

Take care ya’ll.

  1. That is awesome! I love reading updates on the net worth. And I think punching more debt is a smart thing. Good job! 🙂

  2. Great work Ninja! And I'd have to say, I would be sufficiently happy with $14,000 until MY debt was punched off (is that a new verbage acceptable on your site now?). =D

  3. That is really amazing how you turned it all around in such a short amount of time. I would love to join you in becoming a Bagillionaire! Of course, my journey will be a bit slower than yours (but none the less…just as successful).

Did you ever find out if you will have internet in the Island?

  4. I want in! I want in! =D
